A female executive wearing glasses and a grey blazer holds her hands out in a questioning gesture during a meeting with two colleagues, illustrating a leader reflecting on the emotional climate they create.

Here’s a question I’ve been sitting with lately:

“What emotional climate do people experience around me most often?”

Not occasionally.

Not on my best days.

Most often.

Because leadership isn’t only about strategy, productivity, or communication.

People feel our leadership before they evaluate it intellectually.

They feel:

our pace

our tension

our calm

our patience

our appreciation

our frustration

And over time, those repeated emotional experiences become culture.

That’s why two leaders can use the exact same “management techniques…”

and create completely different teams.

One creates fear.

One creates trust.

One creates pressure.

One creates ownership.

One creates emotional withdrawal.

One creates discretionary effort.

Tiny patterns matter more than we realize.

A rushed response.

A distracted meeting.

A thank you.

A moment of curiosity.

A moment of repair after tension.

Small moments teach people whether it feels safe to fully show up.

This is one of the themes I’ll be exploring in next week’s masterclass:

“The Hidden Leadership Patterns That Undermine Employee Engagement.”

If you’ve ever wondered why good people sometimes stop bringing their best energy to work… this conversation may resonate deeply.

Wishing you a peaceful holiday weekend.
